ROCKSTAR CLIMBING, SWINDON IS PROUD TO BE A NICAS AWARDING CENTRE

NICAS is a UK wide scheme which is designed to promote climbing development and accredit individual achievement on artificial climbing structures. It is a fantastic starting point for people wishing to take up climbing and mountaineering and is available to all from the age of 8 upwards.

NICAS is an amazing scheme for young climbers, it allows them to gain new abilities, build confidence and develop key life skills. Climbers working on NICAS are rewarded for their progression and in addition it also counts towards GCSE and Duke of Edinburgh Awards

NICAS comprises five levels:

  • Level 1 - Foundation Climber: Aimed at novice or very first time climbers, this level recognises their ability to climb safely under supervision.
  • Level 2 - Top-Rope Climber: An award aimed at promoting best practices in climbing and bouldering.
  • Level 3 - Technical Climber: A more advanced climbing and bouldering award that focuses on developing technical and movement skills.
  • Level 4 - Lead Climber: An award that concentrates on the skills required to lead climb and lead belay proficiently.
  • Level 5 - Advanced Climber: The top level award that focuses on improving performance with a deeper understanding of the sport.

NICAS SESSIONS AT ROCKSTAR

We provide NICAS as part of our Cliffhanger Climbing Club. Cliffhangers is open to all Juniors between the ages of 8 and 12 years old and all teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17 years old.
